Sankofa United is a proud supporter of the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March - Justice or Else.
We are aware of the oppression that black and brown people face living here in America and living in some of our most disinfranchised and poverty stricken communities. We also understand that there is a attack and assult on Black and Brown people in the form of Police Brutality, Terrorism, Mass Incarceration, Black on Black Violence, Media, etc. Now is the time for us to come together to address these issues and come up with a agenda that will address these issues. But, we only can do them with other people that look like us and with the whole community. Buses are leaving from the Pittsburgh area to unite in DC 10-10-15.
Please look for Us because, ALL Roads Lead to DC. #JusticeorElsePgh101015

Black Economic Forum Pt.1

Black August is here August is the month where we pay tribute to the true Hero's, Sheroe's, Martyr's & history of our on-going struggle for Liberation. We will pay tribute to our Black August Revolutionaries and the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane of Katrina.
On 8/23/15 we had a powerful community Forum on Black Economics & what that looks like as Black person in Pittsburgh. Below is a excerpt of Mama Betty Lane discussing gentrification that is happening in the Larimer area of East Liberty. Gentrification is being described as modern day "Ghetto Removal" of the poor, disenfranchised & vulnerable people.

This is What Unity Looks Like...

6/6/15

Our Annual  Day of Unity in the Community Day II (collaboration between Sankofa Community Empowerment Inc. Pittsburgh Chapter and Seshemet Community Council)
was a success.  People came from all over thus, Ohio, Farrell, Pa, & Virginia to see Sister Shahrazad Ali lecture on Uniting Black Men and Women & Strengthening the Black Family. At time the audience was laughing & clapping & other times they we in agreement with Sister Shahrazad Ali.  If anyone took anything home from the lecture it was that Black Men should be uplifted by Black Women & When the Black Woman Empowers the Black Man she in result Strengthens the Family Unit.
(Below are Pictures of Lecture & Book Signing)

Our comrade Mumia Abu Jamal has been in failing health culminating in an emergent crisis this month.  Consequently, the Free Mumia campaign, Mumia’s family, friends, and concerned citizens would like to be able to send in new lawyers and independent medical staff to treat him.  The ultimate goal, as always, is to FREE MUMIA and all political prisoners. This is a celebration of Mumia’s life and contributions to the movement at large.  It is also a galvanization and rekindling of the ongoing movement to save his life which is being threatened due to medical neglect at the hands of the state.  Stop the murder of Mumia and all other prisoners by medical neglect!
